Chrysmo is a home improvement app that connects homeowners with local experts and contractors by live chat to assist with home improvement and repair projects.

  1. Ask a question or choose from the predefined topics.
  2. Get connected to qualified experts for remote guidance. Share pictures and chat through text, audio and video call.
  3. If needed, get connected with local contractors for in-home assistance.
  4. Rate the expert and/or contractor at the end of the session.
  5. Cross a project off your to-do list!

The app is free to download and there are no subscription fees. You’ll only be charged when you connect with our Experts. Rates are posted in their profiles.

If for any reason you feel that you shouldn’t be charged, please send us a short note at [email protected] with the reason and we’ll refund you. We may reach out to you to understand the details if needed in order to improve our service.

Chrysmo is a localized service currently available in the Charlotte Metro. We don’t restrict access or usage by homeowners in other cities, so you can still receive guidance from our Experts. In those situations, we won’t be able to provide contractors for in-home help.

An “Expert” helps customers by providing assistance remotely through the Chrysmo app.

A “Service Provider” or “Contractor” provides local, in-home services for home maintenance repairs and projects.

We are new to the Charlotte market, so our network of professionals and available categories is growing. Follow us on social media for news and updates. Currently, Chrysmo is available in the following categories:

There are no set time limits. You can communicate with the Expert for several minutes or across several interactions to help you get the job done. An interaction only ends once you select “End Chat.”

Chrysmo’s Experts come from different areas of expertise that are related to home repair needs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, landscaping, home-décor, etc.

We believe in the power of referrals, ratings and reviews. It helps create a level playing ground among the Expert community. All of our Experts start their Chrysmo journey through referrals. As they serve homeowners like you, they get rated. Certain areas such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc., are governed by state or federal laws and may require certification. For these categories, Chrysmo vets Experts based on experience and certifications. We also vet our experts on their technology skills and soft communication skills, which are extremely important to providing a delightful experience to Homeowners.

We also believe in expanding the workforce. Experts may be veterans, firemen, retired professionals, current employees of contractors, or community members with relevant experience and skills.

Yes – Chrysmo offers 3 free chat sessions for all new users. Credit card information will only be used for sessions after the trial credits have been used. If you’re not satisfied, send us a short note to [email protected] and we’ll refund you.

Chrysmo stores your email address and zip code to serve your needs. Your payment information is managed exclusively by our payment processor Braintree (by PayPal) and is never stored on our servers.

Our Experts only need to know your zip code in order to refer available contractors in your area. For in-home help, you may wish to share your address with the Contractor. However, this information is not store by Chrysmo.

You have no obligation to choose from the list of Contractors referred by an Expert. Even if you choose to connect with a Contractor, you have no obligation to use their services.

You can initiate the call again. A chat session only ends when you press “End Chat.”

Do you consider yourself an expert DIYer or handyman, or have a special expertise which you think would help Chrysmo users? Are you working for a contractor? You can register to become an Expert on our website.

The Chrysmo app can be used as both a Homeowner and an Expert – you just need a distinct email address for each account. For more information, please read the FAQs section for Experts.

Yes – you can use PayPal or a credit card to pay.

  1. Select your availability within the app.
  2. Receive a notification when a user requests to connect.
  3. Accept the request to connect and start interacting.
  4. Guide users through repair/improvement projects.
  5. Provide feedback when the chat ends.

Chrysmo is free to download. We don’t charge any subscription fees for Homeowners, Experts or Contractors.

  3. Watch a few short videos on topics such as how to use the app, delighting customers, do’s and don’ts, etc.
  4. Complete your app profile with a photo, logo, and other information.
  5. Start earning extra money!

A “Service Provider” or “Contractor” provides local, in-home services for home maintenance repairs and projects.

Experts earn money for remotely providing guidance to Homeowners. Because we use a variable pricing structure, you set the price Homeowners are charged for your expertise. The amount earned is the price you set less a small percentage retained by Chrysmo.

You will earn for each interaction except in situations where the Homeowner indicates they were not satisfied and rates you below 3 stars. If for any reason you feel a rating does not accurately reflect the interaction, please send us a short note at [email protected] with the reason and we’ll handle the dispute.

Experts get paid at the end of every week through PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, don’t worry! You can create one when you receive the notification email for the first payment. We only need your email address to make payment to your PayPal account. If you already have an existing account, we recommend that you use the email address associated with that account for registration with Chrysmo.

No - only Homeowners can request to connect. The app waits for a limited duration, approximately one minute, for an Expert to accept. If the notification is not answered, the Homeowner is notified that the Expert is not available and is prompted to select another one.

There are no time limits on the interactions. You can communicate with the Homeowner for several minutes or across several interactions to help them get the job done. For example, you may find it necessary to request that the Homeowner gets a specific tool or part to complete the repair. In this case, the interaction could extend over several smaller interactions. An interaction only ends once the Homeowner selects “end call.”

Our research indicates the following timeframes are likely:

  • First 5 minutes: You are able to gauge whether you can help the Homeowner repair the issue themselves.
  • Next 1-2 minutes: You are able to provide Homeowner guidance regarding steps to take, needed parts and tools, etc.
  • Last 10-15 minutes: You provide step-by-step instructions through continuous or intermittent audio/video call.
  • Total call estimated to last 15-20 minutes.

You must recommend a Contractor for in-home assistance in the following circumstances:

  • Guidance may risk personal injury or harm to the Homeowner.
  • Lack of proper tools to fix or diagnose the problem problem.
  • Homeowner is not used to or comfortable with DIY projects.
  • More than one category of expertise is needed (i.e. problem may need both appliance and plumbing assistance).
  • Guidance may risk Homeowner losing warranty claims (i.e. appliances, etc.).
  • Any electrical or gas plumbing situations.

This is not an exhaustive list, so it is critical that you exercise good judgment.

No. A contractor outside of the Chrysmo network has not been vetted and cannot be made available to Homeowners. Only registered and approved contractors can be recommended. If you know a great contractor, invite them to register on the Chrysmo website.

Yes. You’ll need a different email address for each account if you wish to register as both an Expert and as a Contractor.

Chrysmo does not charge subscription or registration fees and the app is free to download. Contractors are charged on a per-lead basis, so you will only be charged by accepting a Homeowner’s request to connect.

We use a variable fee structure, which means you set the rate charged for each referral. This allows you to effectively compete with other contractors for bids while maintaining control of your budget. You can adjust the rate as needed by sending your request to [email protected]
